AMILIA AGUSTIN, THE PIONEER OF SUSTAINABLE LIFESTYLE

In the current Merdeka Curriculum, the term P5 is familiar. P5 means Projek Penguatan Profil Pelajar Pancasila or the Project for Strengthening the profil of Pancasila Student. P5 is a programme designed by the Ministry of Education and Culture as part of the Merdeka Curriculum, which aims to encourage the achievement of the Pancasila Student Profile.

This programme is implemented using project-based learning. P5 itself is a student character development project to be able to live and behave in accordance with Pancasila values. And it is an interdisciplinary learning activity that observes and seeks solutions to problems that exist around.

Some of the P5 themes that can be chosen include Local wisdom, Sustainable Lifestyle, Unity in Diversity, Build the body and soul, Voice of democracy, Engineering and technology and entrepreneurship.

As a teacher, I have implemented these P5 activities in my school. In fact, for this semester we are using the theme of Sustainable Lifestyle with the topic of Waste into masterpiece. We invite children to manage waste properly into useful items that have a selling value.

That’s why when I read Amilia Agustin’s profile, I consider her to be the pioneer of this P5 activity, especially for the Sustainable Lifestyle theme. Imagine when there was no discussion about Waste in schools, Agustin has been doing it since 2010. Oh My God, it is 14 years ago!!

Usually some students do not care with the rubbish around them. Teacher always remind them how to throw the rubbish properly. So what Amilia do is very inspiring. She has a good idea about waste in her early age. Then she continued her idea until she was an adult.

Therefore, it is not wrong if Amilia Agustin received the Satu Indonesia Award (SIA) in the field of Environment in 2010. SATU Indonesia Awards is Astra’s Appreciation for people who have contributed to support the creation of a sustainable life through the fields of Health, Education, Environment, Entrepreneurship and Technology.

Amilia was born on 19 April 2024  is the youngest candidate because she is still 14 years old at that time.  The cool thing is that the prize received by Amilia is used to support local communities to manage patchwork into useful and saleable crafts.

Amilia has been interested in environmental cleanliness since she was in junior high school. Amilia saw a lot of rubbish in her school that was not managed properly. So that her intention arose to take care of the garbage.

Go to Zero Waste School

Amilia then formed a movement called Go to Zero Waste School. They manage plastic waste and then recycle it into useful things. What is Amilia doing is exactly like the spirit of P5, which is a sustainable lifestyle.

Under the guidance of Mrs Nia Kurniati, Amilia, who studied in SMP 11 Bandung, manages the waste in her school well. Through the Go to zero waste school movement, Amilia educates her friends and even her teachers about good waste management.

In addition to reducing waste, they also recycle and manage waste properly. They manage the collected waste into four areas of management: inorganic waste, organic waste, landfill waste, and paper waste. Amilia also empowers waste so that it can produce economic value and be useful in everyday life. One of them is making bags and compost fertiliser

When she was in high school, Amilia became even more passionate about waste management. Amilia became an activist in the environmental field. One of her activities was to socialise waste recycling to women in her neighbourhood. Amilia hopes that these women can take part in environmental conservation activities. Ami’s movement is “Turning Waste into Blessings”.

UDAYANA GREEN COMMUNITY

When Amilia finally continued her studies in Bali, she remained passionate about managing waste and being an environmentalist. Amilia founded the Udayana Green Community. This community focuses on waste management and in organising socialisation on waste management. Starting from the lowest level including in schools and communities.

Amilia managed to gather around 30 volunteers who are committed to continue serving the environment. She made many programs in saving the environment and asked the volunteers to join it.

I think we should emulate Amilia’s spirit. Because if not us, who else will care about our environment? How Pity our children and grandchildren in the future if we don’t take good care of this earth. Let’s follow Amilia’s footsteps to protect our environment!
